Surrey club's Bike Day event to roll out from Holland Park

June 7 gathering is organized for 3rd year by Rotary Club of Surrey

The Rotary Club of Surrey aims to promote "health, harmony and happiness" during another Bike Day gathering at Holland Park.

The club's 2025 event is set to start 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 7 at the park's southwest corner (98B Avenue at 134 Street), starting point for cycling routes of seven and 16 kilometres.

Riders are required to bring their own bike, helmet and bottle of water, the club says on a website where registration is done (portal.clubrunner.ca/259), for fees of $10 (solo rider) or $20 (family rate).

In 2024, the club held Bike Day at the park for a second year. Dozens of event photos are posted on Rotary Club of Surrey's Facebook page.

The shorter route is great for families and casual riders, taking approximately 40 minutes to complete. For those seeking a more vigorous cycling experience, the 16-kilometre route will take about an hour to complete.

“We want to promote bike riding,” event organizer Lal Baniya said last May.

“The city is building infrastructure for (cycling) in the area, and we want to get even better biking infrastructure in Surrey, so hopefully this will give exposure to the event and attract the attention of the public.”

Bike Day supporting organizations include HUB Cycling, which backs Go By Bike Week events from May 31 to June 6, with group rides, cycling tours, webinars, online events and more detailed on bikehub.ca/bike-events/go-by-bike-week. The "celebration of cycling" is when HUB encourages everyone in Metro Vancouver to travel by bike and "motivate those who already do to keep riding."

Meantime, the fifth annual Tour de Concord, now billed as Canada’s largest criterium and integrated family bike festival, will take place Sunday, July 13, at Concord Pacific Place in Vancouver, event organizers announced Wednesday, May 14.

The criterium cycling race and free family festival returns "bigger and better than ever, celebrating community spirit, active living, and all generations. More free perks, bike gear-ups from MEC, and thousands of dollars of prizing are up for grabs, including bikes and a 4-day Sea to Sky Getaway from the Westin Bayshore and Sundial Hotel in Whistler."

Concord Pacific will donate all race registration fees to Cycling BC's youth cycling and high-performance programs.
