The Battle of Vernon was one-sided.
The defending B.C. champion Vernon Panthers welcomed the Seaton/Kalamalka Sonics to the B.C. Interior AA/AAA Junior Varsity Football League with a convincing 54-0 romp over the crosstown rivals Wednesday, Oct. 30, at Greater Vernon Athletic Park (GVAP).
Close to 100 fans, cheering on their favourite squads, braved cool but sunny conditions in the late afternoon contest.
The win improved the Panthers record to 4-0 to sit atop the Thompson-Okanagan Division, and clinched first place in the division in their final regular-season contest.
The loss dropped the Sonics to 1-2.
Following a long run by Owen West, Ayden Stringer took a hand-off from quarterback Nash Steele and scampered in from four yards to give Vernon a 7-0 lead on its opening possession. Dayton Orr booted the convert.
West would add two touchdowns, and Steele would also score a major as VSS built up a 27-0 halftime lead, and equalled that output in the second half.
Seaton will play its final regular-season contest at home Wednesday, Oct. 30, against the Valleyview Vikings of Kamloops (0-3). Game time is 4 p.m. at GVAP. VSS has a bye in the final week before the post-season begins.
