The Nanaimo NightOwls have won six straight baseball game, and are hoping they'll continue to be in a celebratory mood on Canada Day, when they've got a fireworks show planned.
The NightOwls, in partnership with Kwumut Lelum Foundation, is putting on fireworks after a baseball game at Serauxmen Stadium on Tuesday, July 1.The NightOwls play their Island rivals the Victoria HarbourCats that night.
Owls general manager Tina Cornett noted in a team press release that more than 3,100 fans attended last year's Canada Day game ahead of the fireworks show.
“This fireworks game is becoming a must-see tradition in Nanaimo," she said.
The NightOwls have won six straight games – two of them exhibition games – and swept the Edmonton Riverhawks this past weekend at Serauxmen Stadium, winning 10-9, 2-0 and then 5-3.
In the barnburner to start the series, Eli Watson had two hits and three RBIs and Tyler Arnold, Andrew Nykoluk and and Raoul Fabian Jr. had two hits apiece. Trey Langan was the winning pitcher.
In the second game, starting pitcher Aidan Boice threw five shutout innings, giving up three hits and striking out five, but it was Cole Carmichael who claimed the win with Brennan Kettle recording the save. Spencer Sullivan and Jacob Hayes had two hits each.
The series finale saw Talan Zenk hit a home run for the Owls. Carter Chard-Hill earn the win after striking out all three batters he faced in an inning of work and Asher de Leo registered the save.
GAME ON … The NightOwls and HarbourCats play at 6:35 p.m. on July 1 at Serauxmen Stadium, then the rest of the series moves to Victoria on July 2-3. The Owls are also on the road this coming weekend, visiting the Riverhawks for three games July 4-6.
