Duncan Christian School's top athletes honoured

As school lets out for the year, students win honours

The 2024/25 Duncan Christian School athletic awards were handed out June 12 and a host of student-athletes were recognized for their exceptional skill and talent both on the field and off. What follows is a list of the major award winners.

DCS's Sportspersons of the Year were Denay McClelland and Addie Nederlof for their outstanding athletic service.

John Thomas (JT) Memorial Basketball Minor Officials plaques went to Violette Muller, Merika Henry, Ella Charlie, Natalie Scholefield, and Sofie Scholefield, "for service as an ambassador for DCS basketball, sharing generously of [their] time and talent."

John Thomas (JT) Memorial Basketball Minor Officials medals were handed out to 17 other students who made valuable contributions to the sport this past school year.

Volleyball Officials Medals were awarded to Ehan Brown, Addie Dederlof, Noah Pridham, Caleb Nelson, Denay McClelland and Maddy Allen.

The Anne Muller Award, presented by Chris Muller, was given to Sofie Scholefield and Addie Nederlof. The award is given to for the DCS basketball player(s) who demonstrate(s) the most energy and enthusiasm.

The senior girls Athletes of the Year were Violett Muller and Merika Henry.

Muller was an MVP on both the senior girls basketball and soccer teams, and a John Thomas (JT) Memorial Basketball Minor Officials plaque and medal winner.

Henry was the senior girls volleyball MVP and a John Thomas (JT) Memorial Basketball Minor Officials plaque and medal winner.

The junior girls Athletes of the Year were Adessa Fitzpatrick and Eliana Ayensu.

Fitzpatrick and Ayensu were the junior volleyball (grey team) Most Inspirational Players. Fitzpatrick also earned an Athletic Service Medal while Ayensu was the junior girls basketball (white team) and junior girls soccer team's Most Inspirational Player.

Grayson Dunn was the senior boys Athlete of the Year for the second-straight year while Nick Abi Hanna earned the junior boys Athlete of the Year award.

Dunn, on his way to Ambrose University to continue his basketball career, was one of DCS's basketball MVPs. He was also the Most Sportsmanlike Player on the senior boys volleyball and soccer teams.

Dunn received the 2025 Cowichan and Chemainus Valley’s (CCV) Sports Scholarship,  BC Christian Secondary Schools Athletic Association's Luke Van Harmelen Memorial Scholarship, DCS Athletic Excellence & Leadership Legacy Fund Scholarship and the BC Ministry of Education District Authority Scholarship.  

"Excellence in the areas of athletics, teamwork, academics, leadership, character and service are key to the reception of all of these scholarships," Veenstra said. "Grayson's dedication in all of the above areas has blessed his teachers, coaches, classmates and teammates."

Abi Hanna was the Most Sportsmanlike Player on the junior boys volleyball and basketball teams, and earned an Athletic Service Medal. Along with Noah Pridham, Abi Hanna won the B.C. Christian Jack Boersma Junior Athlete Awards this year as well.

It wasn't just the students that were recognized however. Michelle Nederlof was recognized by the school for her more than 30 years of coaching basketball at Duncan Christian School. Nederlof was recognized earlier in the year by BC School Sports with the 2025 Women in Sports & Leadership Award.
