Chilliwack Slo-Pitch looking for league history in runup to 50th anniversary

Slo-Pitch officials are collecting old photos, uniforms, clippings and memorabilia from 5 decades of ball history

Chilliwack Slo-Pitch is putting out a community-wide appeal for league memories leading up to their 50th anniversary.

"As the anniversary approaches in 2027, we are hoping to uncover more of the league’s early history. We are calling on former players, organizers, and fans to help piece it together," said Sean Moore of Chilliwack Slo-Pitch.

Slo-Pitch has always been more than just a game in Chilliwack.

"It’s been a hub for connection, fun, and community spirit for almost five decades — and we want to make sure that legacy is remembered and honoured," Moore said.

To find the local history of the sport they have combed through The Chilliwack Progress archives, the Chilliwack Museum and Archives and various sources to build a timeline of slo-pitch as it developed in Chilliwack over the years.

"While we’ve been able to find a few early references, much of the league’s history — particularly from the 1970s and 1980s — has been difficult to track down," Moore said.

That’s why they’re reaching out to the community for help.

"If you played Slo-Pitch in Chilliwack in the early days, helped organize a team, or even have old photos, uniforms, rosters, or newspaper clippings tucked away, we’d love to hear from you.

"Even small memories — the names of teams, coaches, or where games were played — can help us preserve the league’s story and properly celebrate its 50th."

Anyone with memorabilia or memories can email chilliwackslopitch@gmail.com or message them through the Chilliwack Slo-Pitch Facebook page.

"Let’s make sure this incredible part of our community’s history isn’t lost — and that we’re ready to celebrate five decades of ball when 2027 rolls around."
