Happy birthday Canada!

July 1 was a big day even 111 years ago, witnessed by this fantastic photo from 1914 Dominion Day Celebrations from the Museum and Archives of Vernon. The picture shows the old Canadian flag in the background (we're just not sure where this photo was taken), with a well-decorated 1914 Ford automobile (check out the licence plate and hand crank starter at the front). July 1 is now Canada Day and there will be celebrations in communities across the North Okanagan on Tuesday.

Happy 158th Canada!

This week's historic photo from the Museum and Archives of Vernon shows people getting ready for Dominion Day celebrations in Vernon on July 1, 1914. The country was only 47 years old then. A big party would be held across the nation three years later celebrating the 50th anniversary of the forming of the Dominion of Canada.
