Things are on track in Sicamous with the highly anticipated pump track expected to be operational this summer.

In a May 31 update on the district website, staff announced the project in Finlayson Park is well underway after construction started in the spring.

“We are happy to report that the project is coming together nicely and we expect that the pump track will be ready for… this summer,” the post states.

It adds that paving of the formed dirt track has started and will continue into the first week of June, with topsoil being brought in shortly after.

With the unfinished track still somewhat vulnerable, the district asked that people “resist the urge” to give it a test run until it’s officially open.

“The soil is still soft and grass seed will be planted,” the post reads. “We want to have a beautiful site for residents and visitors to enjoy very soon!”

Those visitors will include local and international world class riders as Sicamous successfully bid to host one of 15 qualifying events for the 2024 Velosolutions UCI Pump Track World Championships. That qualifier will roll into town on Sept. 7, giving plenty of time to have the track completed and numerous test drives completed.
