Things are going to be hopping in Sicamous this summer with the introduction of Kangoo, a new fitness program that will put a spring in your step.
In an update to council at the June 11 Committee of the Whole meeting, recreation programmer Jamie Sherlock announced the new program that originally had her saying "Kang-what?" Looking into it, she found out it's a low-impact workout using special, spring-loaded boots while jogging, jumping and dancing offered through Kangoo in the Shuswap with instructor Tania Anaka.
“This is a great program for those who have joint problems because it actually takes the impact on the boots itself,” she explained.
Starting July 2, the program will run Wednesday nights from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. by the exercise equipment in Finlayson Park where they’ll “throw on some music and they bounce and jump to their heart’s content.”
Sherlock hopes to make this a permanent program in the district and “if the uptake is as good as what we think it is, it will continue on in the fall and winter as well.”
Space is limited to 12 as the number of boots are limited so pre-registration is highly recommended at sicamous.ca/live-here/recreation. For the eight-week series, which ends Aug. 20, it's $100, or $15 drop in.
