Looking to broaden your social circle, or find other women to attend functions or travel with? Then come on down to the Ashcroft Legion on Tuesdays (12:30 p.m. to ?) to meet with other mature women who are looking for like-minded people to do things with. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, June 24.

The Suddenly One: Building Connections program has returned, and takes place every other Thursday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Ashcroft Library (private meeting room at the back). The next meeting will be on Thursday, June 26.

Suddenly One is for men and women of all ages who suddenly find themselves alone. The event will feature coffee, tea, and conversation, with people able to share their thoughts, stories, and experiences surrounding loss and living alone. There is no agenda; topics and activities are up to the participants, all in an accessible, respectful, and confidential space.

There is no cost to take part, and participants can attend as many or as few sessions as they would like. For more information, email ashcroft.hospice@gmail.com.

Kids’ summer camps

Those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer are getting closer, and so are kids’ summer camps at the Ashcroft HUB. There are eight camps in all — Pirate, Superhero, A.R.T., Minecraft, Jurassic, Spy, Dance, and Krazy Cafe — with each one running for four days (Tuesday through Friday). The first one is Pirate Camp (July 8–11), and the final one is the always popular Krazy Cafe (Aug. 26–29).

The camps are for kids aged 7 to 12 (with the exception of Krazy Cafe, which is for those aged 10 and older). Camps run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, and the cost is $75 per child per camp. Some are likely to fill up fast, so to book, or find out more, contact the HUB at (250) 453-9177, email office@ashcrofthub.com, or go to https://bit.ly/3Fwl1QB.

Report illegal dump sites

The Thompson-Nicola Regional District’s back country clean-up program is available to help clean up sites where waste has been deliberately abandoned, and to support public clean-up events. In 2024 the program led to 24 illegal dumping sites being cleaned up, with well over 100 tonnes of waste removed, and supported six community clean-up events.

Reports from members of the public who spot these sites are critical to help address illegal dumping. If you see one of these sites while out in the back country, you can report it to the TNRD by going to tnrd.ca/illegal-dump-sites. Please also report all illegal dumping to the RAPP line at 1-877-952-7277, or *7277 on your cellphone.
