The Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen (RDOS) won't be holding its regular meeting in Penticton on May 22, instead, the board is taking business to Princeton.
The RDOS was invited to hold its meeting west of its usual board room by Princeton's Mayor and board member Spencer Coyne. The mayor – who sits on the RDOS board to represent his municipality – invited the rest of the RDOS to join him on a tour of Copper Mountain Mine, for Mining Month.
“I am happy to see the RDOS board will be exploring other areas of the district,” said Coyne. “It is important that we experience one another's communities.”
After the tour of the mine, the board will head back to the Princeton and District Community Skills Centre to start the board meeting at 3 p.m.
The meeting of the RDOS Board of Directors is open to the public and will be streamed live on the RDOS YouTube channel.
“Hosting the RDOS board meeting in other locations within the Regional District is an important part of open governance,” said Mark Pendergraft, RDOS chair. “It also provides directors with an opportunity to become more familiar with other communities in the region.”
The RDOS' CAO stated that the district is looking to find opportunities to better connect with rural communities including having more meetings outside of Penticton.
