Fresh off passing its most recent financial plan, the Regional District of Nanaimo has started the process of preparing for its 2026 budget.
In a press release, the RDN said the electorate can help mould the region's 2026-2030 financial plan by providing input through a survey available until July 8. Information will be gathered intended to help the regional district identify services most important to residents.
The regional district taxes for parks, drinking water, wastewater treatment, public transportation and recreation services, the press release noted, and consultation with residents is "an important part of the financial planning process" giving board directors insight into the views of taxpayers.
An aggregated financial plan is expected to be presented to the board on Nov. 4, and a preliminary 2026-30 financial plan is anticipated to be adopted on Dec. 9 ahead of an amended plan in the new year.
