As communities across the Okanagan-Similkameen continue to heat up under record-breaking temperatures, Princeton is taking extra precautions to keep everyone safe.

A fire ban is now in effect indefinitely, as the town has been placed under an extreme fire risk advisory by Princeton Fire Department chief Rob Banks.

"All fires will be prohibited throughout the Town of Princeton," the Town stated. "Check with local government authorities for any other restrictions before lighting any fire."

Activities that are prohibited include:

  • Category 2 open fires
  • Category 3 open fires
  • Woody debris fires in outdoor stoves
  • The use of tiki torches, fireworks, firecrackers, sky lanterns, burning barrels or burning cages of any size or description
  • The use of binary exploding targets
