Police are seeking witnesses of a collision that left a cyclist with serious injuries on the highway at the north end of Vernon on Monday.
Police and emergency personnel were at the scene of the collision on Highway 97 near Swan Lake Market and Garden around 2:30 p.m. May 5. An investigation determined a white Honda Accord was driving southbound when a man on a bicycle suddenly tried to cross the highway, riding right out in front of the vehicle, the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP said in a media release Tuesday.
The driver was unable to avoid the collision and hit the cyclist, who suffered serious injuries and was taken from the scene by ambulance.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, the RCMP said.
Police are now asking anyone who was driving on Highway 97 near Swan Lake Market and Garden between 2 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. May 5 to contact the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP if they have dashcam footage or witnessed the collision.
