Permanent cooling station with misters, solar lights coming to Penticton

Construction on the project will begin in mid-July

A new place to cool down from the summer heat is coming to downtown Penticton.

City officials said a water cooling station — featuring an accessible walkway, misters, and solar lights — will be installed at Gyro Park.

The project was made possible in part due to a $173,000 grant from the Union of B.C. Municipalities' Disaster Risk Reduction-Climate Adaptation fund, the city added.

Construction on the new station will begin in mid-July.

Each mister at the all-ages facility will be triggered by an activation button, set on a timer.

According to the city, some of the $173,000 it received will also go toward a temporary misting station at its "Quench Buggy," and a water bottle fill station trailer which can be moved to events and parks as needed.
