The North Saanich Rod and Gun Club is among several sites across B.C. preparing to celebrate National Range Day with family-friendly events.
Canada’s sport shooters invite the public to spend the day learning about our heritage and experiencing a sport that is open to people of all ages and abilities. More than 2.3 million Canadians are licensed firearms owners.
National Range Day takes place annually across Canada on or about the first Saturday in June. In North Saanich, the McTavish Road range invites members, family and family friends out on June 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Target ranges around the province are typically operated by local fish and game clubs for their members' use and often as practice facilities for local police departments.
Qualified club members will be on hand to teach safe firearms handling skills, run sharpshooting competitions and answer questions. Many clubs will also host local elected officials, MLAs and MPs so they can better understand shooting sports and Canada’s long history of responsible firearms ownership.
