A former MMA fighter and promoter from Abbotsford has been given an 18-month conditional sentence after he pleaded guilty over an incident that saw him crash into an Aldergrove RCMP Community Policing office building.
Kultar Singh Gill was sentenced to a conditional sentence of 544 days – about a year and a half – and a year of probation on June 25, in Surrey Provincial Court.
Once best known for his Abbotsford mixed martial arts studio and events he organized in cities from Burnaby to Kamloops, Gill was arrested after an Oct. 29, 2023 incident in Aldergrove.
Video surveillance of the event showed a car turning off Fraser Highway and into the parking lot of the Aldergrove Community Police Office. The car, which had a door open and a pair of legs trailing outside, crashed into the building. The car had also allegedly been involved in another crash just before that incident.
Langley RCMP officers arrived on scene to find bystanders trying to help the woman who had been inside the car. Gill had left the scene, but was arrested nearby.
Gill faced a number of charges, and earlier this year he pleaded guilty to dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm. Three other charges were stayed.
Gill's conditional sentence means he will be able to live in the community under conditions imposed by the courts, rather than being jailed. He is also banned from owning firearms for 10 years, a common condition following a criminal conviction.
