A new 'Welcome to the village of Brentwood Bay' sign is now up along West Saanich Road.

Residents and visitors of Brentwood Bay are now greeted by a vibrant new welcome sign, replacing the aging one that had stood for the past 25 years.

The sign, located on West Saanich Road near Keating Cross and Benvenuto, was installed by the District of Central Saanich on June 3.

A donation from the Brentwood Bay Rotary Club, the original sign had become weathered and worn, prompting the district to commission a replacement.

Following safety inspections by FortisBC in the past few weeks, the new sign was finally erected, just a few steps from the Peninsula Co-op Gas and Convenience Centre.

The artist behind the original sign, Alex Witcombe, was brought back to recreate his work.

He maintained the iconic design featuring a solitary raven perched atop the Malahat trees, preserving a familiar and beloved image.

The cedar lettering spelling out "Brentwood Bay" has also been refreshed in the lower portion of the sign, which now includes a land acknowledgment. Next to be installed is the rock perch, which will be located beneath the sign.

The new sign's striking cerulean blue green colour provides a refreshing and welcoming sight, offering a complementary visual alongside the nearby Butchart Gardens sign –  a fresh start for the gateway to Brentwood Bay.
