Pedestrians have already been able to enjoy a sturdier and safer stroll along the forest boardwalk trail near Nakusp Hot Springs this week, following speedy spring renovation work.
The hot springs shared Friday, June 6, via Facebook that its Hot Springs Trail, which spent the first week of June fully closed and under construction with trucks on site, had already partly reopened.
Hot Springs Trail is an easy-to-moderate, 8.5-kilometre route that welcomes hiking, mountain biking, horse riding and snowshoeing. It crosses over Kuskanax Creek and takes about three hours to complete.
Specifically, the trail section just past the bridge was made available again to the public in time for the June 7 and 8 weekend, Nakusp Hot Springs shared.
"The Hot Springs Trail restoration is well underway, with exciting repairs to make the trail more accessible," it previously posted on Wednesday, June 4.
Initial announcements on Facebook had estimated two to three days' closure, which turned into four likely due to the power outage in the Nakusp area that affected operations that Monday, June 2.
The ultimate goal this June is a secure trail that's "more accessible and enjoyable for everyone to explore the forest," Nakusp Hot Springs explained.
