The 700- to 900-block of Beach Drive continues to draw excessive speeders, despite regular Oak Bay Police Department patrols.

Two speeding teen drivers face consequences after being stopped by police in Oak Bay.

Both drivers were stopped in a section of Beach Drive known for excessive speeds.

May 12, a 19-year-old driver of a motorcycle was stopped in the 900-block after officers clocked them going 145 km/h in a 40 zone, the Oak Bay Police Department said in a news release. The driver was issued a ticket for excessive speed, and the bike was impounded for seven days.

A week later, a novice driver was stopped going 98 km/h in a 40 km/h in the 800-block of Beach.

Police ticketed the 18-year-old driver for excessive speed and failing to display an “N” decal, which would signify they are a new driver. The vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Excessive speed tickets also come with three penalty points on a driver’s record, which impacts insurance costs, and vehicle impounds also accrue costs.
