Shuswap BC United supporters have selected another Greg to represent them in the 2024 B.C. election.
On Saturday, March 9, BC United members voted for Greg McCune, whose name will be on the ballot when Salmon Arm-Shuswap voters go to the polls in October. The former Enderby mayor and Sutherland’s Bakery owner was vying for the party’s nomination along with Salmon Arm’s Linda Hawes and Allysa Hopkins of Mara. The North Shuswap’s Jay Simpson backed out of the running to focus on local issues.
The nomination for the Salmon Arm-Shuswap riding followed the October 2024 announcement that Shuswap MLA and BC United member Greg Kyllo would not seek re-election.
“With a wealth of experience in entrepreneurship and municipal governance, Greg is ready to bring his passion and expertise to the provincial stage,” said Kyllo in a social media post following the announcement of McCune’s win. “Congratulations Greg McCune, and thank you Linda Hawes and Allysa Hopkins for putting your names forward and being part of the process. United, we will fix British Columbia!”
McCune celebrated with a post of his own, containing three words: “We did it!”
BC United’s website now includes a profile of their Shuswap candidate.
“For Greg, the true essence of his tenure lies not in accolades, but in the lives touched and dreams realized,” reads the bio. “Whether collaborating with volunteers, businesses, or fellow citizens, his greatest joy remains in empowering others to reach their aspirations, embodying the spirit of service that defines his legacy.”
