Lantzville's Sebastion Road and Harper Road beach ends are closed due to water testing, indicating potential contamination.

Glenn Morphy, Lantzville's director of public works, said the water samples were taken on Monday, June 2, which found excess amounts of enterococci – a bacteriological indicator of fecal contamination.

"It might just be a singular sample problem," Morphy explained. "Sometimes when you take a sample you can pick up nearby contaminates, like for example a bird may have just recently gotten in that area."

Further tests will be conducted on Wednesday, June 4, which will determine if the beach ends can reopen at that time. Until then, the area remains off limits for walking, swimming and canoeing.

Signage is being placed at both beach ends to notify any users.

"Please stay away from the beach until we get a positive result. We just don't want anybody to get sick or anything happen to animals and/or persons."

If people have any questions, the district asks them to call the district office at 250-390-4006.
