Waterfront Park will be temporarily closed on Wednesday, May 21, to make way for improvement work at the Waterfront Park Stage.
The closure affects the entire area from Sunset Drive to the Boat Lock, including Harmony Bridge, Concession Plaza, and Tugboat Beach. A portion of Sunset Drive, at the entrance to Waterfront Park, will also be closed to vehicles from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
This work is part of a major refresh of the Waterfront Park Stage, which is being upgraded to replace the aging structure. The $1.8 million project includes partially filling in the lagoon at the park, upgrading electrical systems, and installing a new, low-maintenance event stage and canopy.
It’s a joint effort between the City of Kelowna and the province with funding support from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport’s Destination Development Grant.
The upgraded stage will be ready to host a wide range of local festivals, programs, and performances later this spring. The temporary closure is needed to safely deliver and install the new canopy structure.
During the closure, street parking on Sunset Drive near the park entrance will be restricted, and any vehicles parked in marked areas may be towed.
