Lace up your shoes and get ready to make a difference as Kelowna Gospel Mission’s (KGM) Strides Event is back for its 14th year.
The annual walk/run fundraiser is on Saturday, May 10. Participants can choose from a two or five kilometre walk, or take on a five or 10km run to help support Kelowna’s unhoused community. Registration opens at 9:00 a.m., with the walk/run beginning at 10:00 a.m.
“By joining Strides, you’re not just participating in a walk or run you’re standing up to protect and support some of Kelowna’s most vulnerable neighbours when they need it most,” said the Kelowna Gospel Mission in a release.
As summer approaches, extreme heat, dehydration, sunstroke, and a lack of safe, shaded spaces pose serious risks for those without shelter.
Funds raised through Strides go toward shelter, medical care, clean water, and outreach programs.
“I love Strides because it brings our entire community together as we walk/run in solidarity with and for our unhoused neighbours,” said Troy McKnight, director of resource development at KGM. “From avid runners to walkers, to families with small children, to seniors, everyone is welcome, and everyone can make a difference."
There’s still time to sign up on the KGM website.
