Alice Durksen
It is time to celebrate the arrival of spring by attending the Spring Serenade concert, which will be presented by the Heritage Quartet of the Chamber Musicians of Kamloops at St. Alban’s Church, Ashcroft on Saturday, May 25 at 7 p.m.
We are so fortunate to have the Chamber’s group of outstanding classical musicians who are committed to performing in the rural areas of the Thompson-Okanagan region, in addition to their many performances for Kamloops audiences. It is their mission to enrich our cultural lives by increasing our enjoyment and appreciation of chamber music. I’m finding it fascinating to see how classical music has inspired all the following forms of music in one way or another.
We are delighted to welcome back violinist Cvetozar Vutev, who will be performing with the Heritage Quartet, along with Catherine Dochstader on flute, Annette Dominick playing the violin and viola, Curtis Howell with piano and harpsichord, and Anika Howell.
Wait: that’s five performers, not four, you say! Yes! Once again we have the opportunity to welcome and support a special young musician. Anika Howell is an accomplished soprano soloist who will be singing with the Quartet. It will be wonderful to mentally support her in the coming years as she shares her gift of song.
I have been assured that the Chamber musicians enjoy being with you, and we will all enjoy experiencing music in the great acoustics of St. Alban’s Church (not to mention the snacks at intermission!). So mark your calendar for Saturday, May 25 and contact me at alice@durksen.ca or at (250) 457-3227 before May 24 for tickets ($20 each; $10 for those under age 18; no charge for children under 12). Tickets can also be purchased at the door.
