UPDATE: Latest Vernon water advisory ends

Water main break impacts Smith, Peters and Kokanee roads

UPDATE June 5:

In conjunction with Interior Health, the Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) has rescinded the water quality advisory issued May 29 for 9101, 9104, 9110, 9120, 9130 Smith Road, 9210-9233 Kokanee Road, and 9030 Peters Road. (see map)

Bacterial testing results have come back clear and disinfection levels are within normal drinking water standards in the distribution system.

UPDATE May 29: More properties have been added to the water quality advisory off Eastside Road.

Due to the evolving nature of this water main break, 9030 Peters Rd., and 9210-9233 Kokanee Rd., have been added to the existing precautionary advisory originally limited to five Smith Road properties.

ORIGINAL: A water main break has put five Smith Road properties on a water quality advisory.

In conjunction with Interior Health, the Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) has issued the precautionary advisory until sampling results confirm the drinking water is safe.

"A water main break in this area has resulted in a depressurization and a loss of water pressure in the area," the RDNO said. "The break is being repaired, and flushing will be completed."

The RDNO is issuing a WQA to the affected area while sampling and testing of the water main occurs to ensure the continued safety of the water system.

When the water service resumes, properties in the area may experience reduced water pressure, discolouration of the water, and/or air in the system. Run a cold water tap until the water has cleared. An outside tap is preferred.

The level of treatment provided by the RDNO has been maintained; however, some customers may wish to boil their water for at least one minute when preparing food, drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice or brushing their teeth.

Updates will be posted to www.rdno.ca/news (filter by Water Notices). You can also subscribe to receive email updates at www.rdno.ca/subscribe.
