Building off what they say is a highly successful annual Police Camp for students in Grades 10 to 12, the Greater Victoria Police Foundation hosted it first-ever Junior Police Camp for 30 kids between the ages of 10 and 12.

The five-day leadership program held at St. Margaret’s School in Saanich is led by officers from across Greater Victoria, as well as reserve officers and members of the RCMP, and it's free thanks to funding by the foundation

"Junior Police Camp's multi-day comprehensive programs are highly immersive, building personal confidence and leadership skills within a challenging, and memorable setting," noted a news release, adding that over the week, the kids get to participate in a canine demonstration, a CSI forensics simulation, a dive unit demonstration and more.

"They will participate in a program that includes team building activities, social media and online safety, anti-gang presentations, special police demonstrations, sports and various hands-on experiences geared towards building leadership skills among the younger generation," noted the release.

The camp runs from July 7 to the graduation day on Friday, July 11.
