There are some spooktacular Halloween treats (no tricks!) coming up in the region for children and adults in the run-up to Oct. 31 and on the day itself. Here’s a list of events that the Journal has come across; all events are free (unless otherwise noted), so get your costumes ready for some frightfully fun times!
Friday, Oct. 25
Bonaparte (family event): All are invited to the “Trunk or Treat” family costume party at Bonaparte First Nation (Quonset at 2610 Spirit Way). The event runs from 5 to 9 p.m. and will include treats and pumpkin carving; there will also be a fireworks display, which starts at 8:30 p.m. For more information call Jamie at (250) 457-0542.
Clinton (adults): The Clinton Legion is holding a karaoke costume party starting at 8 p.m., with cash prizes for the best costumes (to be considered, for a prize you must be there by 9:30 p.m.). The event will be preceded by an Octoberfest dinner (including perogies, cabbage rolls, and sausage) at the Legion starting at 6 p.m., to which all are welcome; the cost for the dinner is $13 for Legion members, $15 for non-members.
Saturday, Oct. 26
Savona (adults): Get ready or the Halloween Dance at the Savona Community Hall, which runs from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. The evening includes prizes, snacks, a 50/50 draw, and a DJ, and tickets are $25 each; they can be purchased at Millers Crossing in Savona.
Sunday, Oct. 27
Ashcroft (family event): Koppers Ashcroft is hosting its annual Costume Skating Party at the Drylands Arena in Ashcroft, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. It’s great fun for the whole family, and skates can be rented at the arena for anyone who needs them.
Thursday, Oct. 31
Ashcroft (children): The Ashcroft HUB is once again holding indoor trick-or-treating in the HUB building from 2 to 4 p.m. All the little ghouls and goblins can show off their costumes while they go door-to-door inside, before heading out for the main event later in the day.
Clinton (family event): Get ready for a Halloween Pit Stop at the Clinton Memorial Hall from 4 to 8 p.m. All ghosts, ghouls, mummies (and daddies) are welcome to stop by for a free hot dog and hot chocolate, and warm up while taking in some spooky sights (note that there will be loud noises and animatronics). The event is sponsored and organized by the Spirit of Clinton Committee, Ben, and Tiffany.
High Bar First Nation (Clinton; family event): Llenllenéy’ten (High Bar First Nation) is hosting a Pirates Mess Hall from 5 to 8 p.m. at the High Bar Church (1401 Cariboo Highway, Clinton). Stop on by for a bonfire and smores, goodie bags, and a sensory table (if you dare!).
Spences Bridge (family event): Gather at the Lookout for a wiener roast and some hot chocolate and get warm around the bonfire! It all starts at 5:30 p.m., so you can take a break from trick-or-treating (or get a head start; residents are welcome to bring their treats and dish them out while they’re gathered).
Cache Creek (family event): The Ashcroft HUB is hosting a costume contest at the Cache Creek Community Hall from 7 to 8 p.m., thanks to the sponsorship of the Cache Creek Recreation Committee. There will be free hot dogs and goodie bags, and the costume judging starts at 7:30 p.m.
The Journal will be putting together a list of upcoming Christmas bazaars and markets in the region, for publication in early November. If you have information about one, and would like to make sure it’s included, please email details to editorial@accjournal.ca.
