I am pleased to share some key accomplishments from what has been an exceptional year for athletics at Desert Sands Community School (DSCS).
As our athletics program continues to grow, we have witnessed a positive transformation in our school sports culture. Students are demonstrating increased pride in representing our school, fostering a stronger sense of belonging, and developing deeper connections with each other.
This year, a total of 68 individual students in Grades 8–12 participated in at least one sport. We successfully fielded five basketball teams, three volleyball teams (including our first boys’ team in many years), two soccer teams, and both elementary and high school track and field teams, with students taking part in a total of 28 away tournaments.
Beyond the competitions, our students have cultivated essential skills such as confidence, communication, and resilience in overcoming challenges. Their remarkable commitment to our school is evident as they volunteer to support other’s teams by scorekeeping, setting up equipment, and creating posters to cheer each other on.
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all our volunteers — staff, community, and caregivers — who contributed to making this athletic season both eventful and enjoyable.
The 2024/2025 athletics season at DSCS has been marked by significant growth, and we are eager to build upon this foundation in the upcoming year. We aim to strengthen our community-school partnership to further enhance our athletics program. I encourage community members to attend games and, if possible, assist with coaching and sharing their expertise.
We are currently seeking a Junior Boys basketball coach for next year. Interested individuals can reach out to swilliamson@sd74.bc.ca for more information.
Let’s go Rams!
