Penticton and District Search and Rescue (PENSAR) crews were tasked Monday night, June 9, to assist a stuck driver near Chute Lake north of Naramata.
The driver — uninjured and brought safely back into Penticton at 12:30 a.m. — followed their vehicle's GPS onto a remote service road before striking a large rock, "causing severe damage and becoming stuck," PENSAR said.
"GPS isn’t always reliable in the backcountry," the search team said in a reminder. "Stick to well-traveled routes and always carry a backup form of communication."
PENSAR also thanked the volunteers who assisted in the rescue on Monday, which came on the team's weekly training night.
