Driver gets three-year jail term for fatal crash in Abbotsford

A driver died following a three-vehicle crash on Oct. 11, 2022 at the intersection of George Ferguson Way and Bourquin Crescent West in Abbotsford. Driver Harvey Nokinsky has now been sentenced in relation to the crash.

A man has been sentenced to a three-year jail term to be followed by a three-year driving ban in relation to a 2022 fatal crash in Abbotsford.

Harvey Dean Nokinsky, born in 1967, was sentenced June 20 in Abbotsford provincial court after pleading guilty to a charge of dangerous driving causing death.

A second charge of impaired driving causing death was stayed at sentencing.

The crash took place Oct. 11, 2022 at the intersection of George Ferguson Way and Bourquin Crescent West in central Abbotsford.

The Abbotsford Police Department reported at the time that patrol officers came across the three-vehicle collision at 8:17 a.m.

One of the drivers had life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital, where he died. The other people involved had injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police said at the time that the driver of the “offending vehicle” remained on scene, and alcohol was believed to be a factor.
