On the weekend of June 6–8, Cache Creek Minor Softball will be holding the first Desert Heat Classic co-ed softball tournament, hosted by the Cache Creek Chaos U-13 girls’ and boys’ teams.

The weekend of softball will take place on the two well-kept fields at the Ashcroft Indian Band’s Chief Scotty Recreational Facility on Cornwall Road. Six other teams — from Vernon, 100 Mile House, and Merritt — will be joining the two host teams from Cache Creek for the three-day tournament.

It is always nice to have out-of-town teams entered in local tournaments, with hopes of them staying at campgrounds and motels, shopping at local businesses, and checking out the sights of the area.

There will be some great fastball played, and the community is encouraged to come and check the games out and maybe grab a hot dog or hamburger from the concession while watching. There will also be 50/50 draws throughout the weekend, along with basket raffles and an opportunity to win a brand-new bat by purchasing tickets though a bat raffle.

Cache Creek Minor Softball could not host this tournament without the great support from so many giving sponsors from the community. The association has received donations in many forms from the following sponsors: Kal Tire Cache Creek; NGN and Ibex; Koppers; Semlin Valley Ranch; Home Hardware; Ashcroft Legion Branch #113; Ashcroft Chevron/KFC; Second Time Around; Wildhorse Industrial; United Way — Local Love Fund; Associated Electrical; and We-Haul Disposal.

The support for Cache Creek Minor Softball has always been great, whether it's been for tournaments or the sharp-looking jerseys the teams sport on the field, and is always appreciated very much.

Umpires have been very difficult to find this season, but the tournament committee is very thankful to have a couple of local umpires, along with a few who are travelling to the area for the weekend to help out. These tournaments do not happen without the help of the amazing Blue Crew that umpires these games.

Round robin play starts on Friday at 6 p.m. with a game each on fields 1 and 2. Play continues on Saturday, with games starting at 8 a.m. and the last games starting at 4 p.m. On Sunday the playoff rounds start at 8 a.m., with the gold medal game taking place at 2 p.m.

The tournament committee has worked very hard, and with the help of the players, parents, and families is hoping for a successful weekend, which could lead to hosting future tournaments in other divisions and possibly inviting more teams. Come on out and watch some amazing softball action and support the players!
