Delta is asking local heritage property owners to share their feedback on the Heritage Conservation Grant program as the city explores how the initiative can better meet the needs of the community.

Designed to offer financial assistance for owners of properties on Delta's Heritage Inventory, the city is looking to increase uptake in the program — only a few applications are received each year, despite there being more than 150 such properties on the city’s inventory — and ensure the preservation of local history, according to a press release.

“As Delta continues to grow, Delta council remains committed to preserving the history of our community,” Mayor George Harvie said in a press release. “Recognizing and honouring our past is an essential part of building a better future.

“We encourage heritage property owners to share their ideas on how we can make improvements to the Heritage Conservation Grant to address their specific needs and support the restoration of Delta’s historic properties.”

Funded through a levy on building permits, the Heritage Conservation Grant provides up to $30,000 per property per year, covering up to 50 per cent of eligible capital costs.

To be eligible, a property must be listed in Delta’s Heritage Inventory and added to the Heritage Registry, and a Heritage Conservation Covenant must be registered on title for 10 years.

A list of properties on Delta’s Heritage Inventory can be viewed at letstalk.delta.ca/48120/widgets/202493/documents/151882, or owners can enter their property’s address on DeltaMap (maps.delta.ca).

Residents are encouraged to complete the feedback form at letstalk.delta.ca/heritagegrant by Friday, May 23, 2025.
