A man who was charged with a 2023 stabbing in Abbotsford has received a conditional sentence of two years less a day.

Lawrence Robert Peters, 21, was sentenced March 14 in Abbotsford provincial court after pleading guilty to charges of assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.

Peters was initially charged with aggravated assault.

The incident took place Dec. 22, 2023. On that day, patrol officers responded at 2:35 a.m. to a reported disturbance in a parking lot in the 3100 block of Clearbrook Road.

When they arrived, they discovered that a 19-year-old man had been stabbed. His injuries were “serious and life-threatening,” police said at the time.

The victim was taken to hospital in stable condition. An arrest was made at the time, but Peters was not charged until February 2024.

A conditional sentence means Peters will serve his sentence in the community, rather than in prison, under strict conditions.
