A review into Victoria council’s code of conduct will come this fall, as earlier anticipated, despite appearing on the committee agenda May 15.

Implemented in August 2023, there has been one complaint of breach of the bylaw, according to an April 28 staff report.

The complaint process proceeded smoothly and functionally from an administrative perspective. There was some confusion in the process council was expected to follow after then investigator found a breach of the bylaw, and council’s final determination on appropriate measures and sanctions. City staff recommended the bylaw be amended to clarify the process.

Coun. Chris Coleman made the motion to defer the staff report to late October, noting the intent was to “test drive” the policy for two years when it was implemented.

“I would like to finish the test driving of this in October,” he said. “And then I think there’s a fair bit of review we need to do in advance.”
