Ashcroft power outage
BC Hydro has announced a planned power outage in Ashcroft on Sunday, May 26, which is necessary in order to carry out important work at the Ashcroft substation on Highway 97C.
The power is tentatively scheduled to be out from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., but BC Hydro crews will be working to minimize the number of customers impacted, and anticipates that the power supply will likely not be interrupted for most people. However, there is still some risk that customers will be affected, and it is recommended that people prepare for an outage, with the hope that their power will not be interrupted. Please minimize electricity use during the planned time frame.
Clinton parade and rodeo
The theme for this year’s Clinton Parade is “The Great Outdoors”, celebrating the landscape and activities that make Clinton and the surrounding area such a great place. The parade starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 25. It will once again be travelling along Highway 97, and great views are available all along the route.
The Clinton Rodeo kicks off at the rodeo grounds south of town at 1:30 p.m. on May 25; a steak dinner will be served up at 5 p.m. (with music by Sophia and Ella Park with Arlen Park), and the doors open for the rodeo dance at 8 p.m. (music from the Neon Rodeo Revue starts at 9 p.m.).
On Sunday, May 26 there will be a pancake breakfast at 9 a.m., and rodeo action resumes at 1:30 p.m. A concession and beverage gardens will be open at the rodeo grounds all weekend, and a shuttle bus will be running to take people to and from the grounds.
Cook’s Ferry community barbecue
All are invited to a community barbecue party at the Cook’s Ferry band office in Spences Bridge from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 25. Everyone is welcome to bring a dish to share; please RSVP to (250) 457-0567 with what you can bring.
Dance recital
Join the dancers of Ashcroft’s MK Ballet for “Alice in Wonderland”, a dance recital taking place starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 25 at the Ashcroft HUB. Tickets are $5 each (children 2 and under are free).
Spring serenade concert
The Heritage Quartet — Cvetozar Vutev (violin), Catharine Dochstader (flute), Annette Dominik (viola and violin), and Curtis Howell (piano, harpsichord, organ), with special guest soprano Anika Howell — will be performing in Ashcroft on Saturday, May 25 at 7 p.m.
The concert will be held at St. Alban’s Church hall, and tickets are $20 each (adults) and $10 each (students under 18); children 12 and under are free. Tickets will be available at the door.
Cache Creek bingo
The Cache Creek Recreation Society is holding its monthly bingo on Monday, May 26 at the Cache Creek Community Hall, and all are welcome. Doors open at 5 p.m. and bingo starts at 6 p.m.
Movie night
The Cook’s Ferry Indian Band is holding a movie night from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29 at the Chief Whitsemnista complex, and all are invited to come out and enjoy a screening of the 1994 family comedy Richie Rich, accompanied by popcorn and other snacks.
June market
There will be a market at the Chief Whitsemnista complex in Spences Bridge on Saturday, June 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (doors open at 9 a.m. for vendors). The market will have a variety of local artisans and feature quilts, crafts, beading, housewares, sweet treats, and more, plus a concession ($5 per plate) and water and coffee by donation.

Skips’ Run
The Ashcroft and District Lion’s Club is once again hosting Skip’s Run in memory of longtime Lion Skip Stuart. This year’s event will take place on Sunday, June 2 starting at the Ashcroft HUB, with participants walking, running, or rolling their choice of courses (2.5km, 5k, and 10km).

Father’s Day fishing derby
The Clinton and District Outdoor Sportsmen Association will be holding their annual Father’s Day fishing derby at Kelly Lake on Sunday, June 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. No fishing licence is required, and all are welcome: you don’t have to be a father or even bring a father.
