The 2023 Annual Report from City of Chilliwack tells its story by the numbers.

Every year the finance department produces an annual municipal report, with a one-page "city snapshot" along with financial overview, as well as progress made on council's strategic goals.

The 2023 snapshot has Chilliwack's estimated population at 103,500, with the average house price at $739,108, according to the Chilliwack and District Real Estate Board (CADREB). Building permit construction values totalled $274 million.

The 2023 Annual Report was received by council at the June 18 meeting.

Chilliwack saw its curbside waste diversion rate, which measures the removal of recyclables and organics from the waste stream was at 66 per cent, and the contamination rate, was decreased from 6.2 per cent to 4.8 per cent, measured with weekly recycling audits.

Citizens can compare year-over-year numbers with the 2022 snapshot, when the population was at 101,667, with the average house price was $929,700, and  building permit construction values at $306 million.

Going back one more year, the 2021 population was 100,580, with an average house price of $802,800, and building permit construction values at $347 million.

For the years 2021 to 2023 the average house price rose and declined with market forces. The number of off-leash dog parks in Chilliwack went from five to seven in the past three years.
