Winter road maintenance
Who do you contact about road maintenance if you don’t live in a municipality?
Within the Thompson-Nicola Regional District’s boundaries, all provincial highways and local roads (outside of municipalities) are maintained by private contractors, through the Province of B.C. In fact, no regional district in the province has jurisdiction over road maintenance within its boundaries.
The TNRD encompasses 45,000 square kilometres, and the province has established five Service Areas within the regional district: Service Areas 13, 14, 15, 16, and 20. The TNRD has a webpage available to help you find out which Service Area you are located in or driving through, and the contact information for the road maintenance contractor in that area. For more information, visit tnrd.ca/road-maintenance.

Design a logo
The 70 Mile Community Club is looking for a new logo, and is having a creation contest. The design must contain “70 Mile Community Club” and the address (2585 North Bonaparte Road, 70 Mile House, B.C. V0K 2K0 Box 159).
Present your logo at the club’s next meeting (6:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 9); the winner will receive $100.
Coffee’s On
Coffee’s On sessions take place at the 70 Mile Community Hall every Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; the next one will be on Dec. 10. The event features coffee, a by-donation lunch, and a chance to get together with others for conversation and camaraderie. Anyone interested in “stepping things up” a bit with crafts, art, card games, and more is encouraged to bring their ideas (and themselves!) to the sessions.
If you are interested in helping out by providing soup, bread, or desserts on specific dates, call Sally at (250) 395-0278.
South Cariboo Seniors Navigator
After Coffee’s On in 70 Mile on Dec. 10, you can attend a South Cariboo Seniors Navigator meeting at the community hall starting at 1 p.m. Guest speaker Jim Smith (TNRD director for Area “E”) will be talking about emergency preparedness, and while the event is geared towards seniors, it’s also important for those who plan to be one, so all are welcome. Hope and Healing service at St. Alban’s
Do you find this time of year difficult? Are you lonely, missing a loved one, or just sad?
All around us we see festive Christmas lights and beautiful displays of trees and ornaments, special foods and gifts; everywhere we turn, we encounter people and places carrying an unrelenting message that shouts at top volume, “’Tis the season to be jolly!” Yet we recognize that the month of December is also difficult for many people, for many different reasons. Christmas may not be as joyful for us as it seems to be for others.
If this is a difficult time, join us at St. Alban’s Church in Ashcroft on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 4 p.m. for a time of readings, prayers, and fellowship. We will be lighting our Advent wreath and enjoying the increasing light. We will share stories and encourage each other, then end the service with a time of fellowship in the hall.
Many blessings at this time! From The Rev. Linda LaGroix
