Canada Cup begins: Surrey hosts international softball championships

Canada Cup will run July 4-13 at Softball City in South Surrey

Friday marked the first day of what organizers described as "one of the largest elite youth and international softball championships in North America." 

The Canada Cup will run July 4-13 at Softball City in South Surrey, and expected to attracted more than 1,500 high-level athletes from around the world, Team Canada is coming off an undefeated run and gold-medal performance at last year’s tournament, returning to the diamond with a strong mix of veteran leadership and new talent, aiming to defend their title on home soil.

The Future and Showcase select divisions started on Friday (July 4), with games being played at Softball City, Cloverdale Athletic Park, and North Delta Park. At 5:30 p.m. Saturday (July 5) at Softball City, there will be a parade of athletes. 

Team Canada will take on New Zealand at 6 p.m., followed by Ukraine at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday (July 8) for their first games of the tournament.
