Cache Creek public meeting will discuss future of community's pool

Oct. 7 meeting will allow residents to share their thoughts on whether pool should be rehabilitated or closed permanently

Loon Lake pie fundraiser

They’re back! The Loon Lake Community Recreational and Agricultural Society has baked up another batch of their delicious homemade chicken pot pies, which are available while supplies last. The five-inch pies are ready for the oven, and cost $6 each.

Drylands Arena open

Ashcroft’s Drylands Arena has opened for the season, with public skating available (except when special events are taking place) on Monday and Wednesday (3:30 to 4:45 p.m.), Friday (7 to 8:30 p.m.), Saturday (33:30 to 5 p.m.), and Sunday (5:30 to 7 p.m.). Season passes are available at the arena. Please note that it is mandatory for children 16 and under to wear helmets during public skating.

Sticks and Pucks sessions will be held on Saturday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. It’s an opportunity for hockey players aged 18 and under to practise the skills of puck handling and skating, and the rules of participation are available at the arena and on the Village of Ashcroft Facebook page. The cost is $3 per session (season passes not accepted).

Adult badminton

Badminton season starts up again on Thursday, Oct. 3, with free drop-in sessions taking place every Thursday from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Cache Creek Community Hall. Adults from throughout the region are welcome to attend; for more information call (250) 457-9164.

70 Mile pancake breakfast

The 70 Mile Community Club’s monthly pancake breakfast (first Saturday of the month) has started up again, with the next one taking place on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the 70 Mile Community Hall. The by-donation event features door prizes and is open to everyone, and takes place from 9 to 11 a.m., so come on over and bring your appetite!

Ashcroft community barbecue

The Village of Ashcroft invites all residents to come to a free community barbecue, taking place at the Ashcroft fire hall (302 Railway Avenue) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5. There will be bouncy castles for the kids, and everyone can enjoy a barbecue with friends and neighbours and get a tour of the newly-renovated fire hall.

Oktobearfest

Don’t forget that Oktobearfest is coming up on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Cache Creek Community Hall, in support of the BC Wildlife Park in Kamloops.
Doors open for the 19+ event at 6 p.m., and there will be cider samples, more than 20 B.C. beers available, snacks (including Bavarian sausages and pretzels), music, and lots of fun. Cache Creek public meeting

The Village of Cache Creek is holding a public hearing to discuss the future of the Cache Creek pool. This will be an opportunity for residents to share their thoughts on whether the pool should be rehabilitated or permanently closed.

The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7 at the Cache Creek Community Hall and will be broadcast by the HUB Online Network on their Facebook page. If you cannot attend, you can still have your say by submitting written comments online at cachecreek.ca/pool. Submissions must be received by noon on Oct. 7.

Coffee’s On

Coffee’s On sessions are back, and taking place at the 70 Mile Community Hall every Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; the next one will be on Oct. 8. The event features coffee, a by-donation lunch, and a chance to get together with others for conversation and camaraderie. Anyone interested in “stepping things up” a bit with crafts, art, card games, and more is encouraged to bring their ideas (and themselves!) to the sessions.

Ashcroft HUB AGM

The Ashcroft HUB is holding its Annual General Meeting starting at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8, and all are welcome to attend and hear about plans for the upcoming year. Interested in being on the board? New board members are always welcome.

Spences Bridge Community Club

The SBCC will be holding its next monthly meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 9 starting at 7 p.m. at Clemes Hall. All residents are encouraged to come to the meeting and learn about the many exciting events and opportunities for volunteering that are coming up in The Bridge.

Clinton Community Forest tour

The Clinton Community Forest is holding a fall field tour on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The tour departs from the Clinton village office at 10:15 a.m., and participants will be able to tour recent operations and discuss all aspects of the community forest. Transportation and lunch are included, and attendees should dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear, as there will be some walking.

Thanksgiving farmers’ market

The Cook’s Ferry Band is holding a Thanksgiving farmers’ market on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Chief Whitsemnista complex in Spences Bridge. There will be local artisans, quilters, crafts, beading, housewares, sweet treats, and more, including a concession at $5 per plate. Proceeds will be donated to the Cook’s Ferry Elders’ Group.

Venables Valley fall festival

All are invited to the fall festival taking place at Govardhana Academy (Venables Valley School) from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12. The event will feature a rummage sale, bake sale, games, face painting, and oxen rides, and admission is by donation, with all proceeds going to the Venables Valley Wildfire Relief Fund.

Ashcroft Halloween market

The Ashcroft Farmers' Market is gearing up for a spooktacular event on Sunday, Oct. 13: the Halloween Market, which will be the last one of the season, and filled with spooky fun, exciting activities, and wonderful vendors. Shine On Singers AGM

The Shine On Singers Children’s Choir Society is holding its 2023 and 2024 AGM on Tuesday, Oct. 15 starting at 6 p.m. at the Ashcroft HUB. Membership renewal fees of $5 per person are due on or before that date.

Equality Project celebrates 10 years

The Equality Project is commemorating a decade of blessings on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. The celebration is open to all, and will honour the Project’s founding members and dedicated volunteers.

Refreshments and snacks will be provided, and the program will include music, slideshows, and a Q & A panel complete with open mic. Come and join the party at the Project’s clubhouse at 1260 Stage Road in Cache Creek.
