A two-wheeled driver doing double the speed limit faces hefty fines after a speed stop on Beach Drive.

An officer on speed enforcement in the 700-block clocked a motorcyclist doing 84 km/h in a posted 40 km/h zone on Jan. 16. The driver was issued a ticket for excessive speed – which comes with a $368 fine – and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The stop was alongside 64 calls for service reported by the Oak Bay department the week of Jan. 13 to 19.

Other initiatives included coffee with a cop; a fraud presentation at an independent senior living home; engaging with youth during a drop-in session and a public input gathering at Spewhung (Turkey Head) introducing and gathering feedback on the new Project Sea Watch.
