It’s not exactly magic but a well-executed mural can captivate, provoke thought, and ignite conversations that transcend boundaries.
Deadline for artists interested in leaving their mark on the Chilliwack Mural Festival is fast approaching.
The Chilliwack Arts Council is hoping once again they’ll be inundated with applications from talented muralists looking to paint a wall in Chilliwack next summer.
Curators are accepting applications until Feb. 5.
The Chilliwack Arts Council is thrilled to be undertaking the artist submission process for 2024 as they have plans to take the creative landscape to new heights. The invitation went out across artist networks seeking those who are willing to “showcase their exceptional talents, ingenuity, and artistic prowess” in Chilliwack for their fourth festival season this summer.
“Last year’s flood of applications affirmed the festival’s international appeal and reinforced Chilliwack’s position as a beacon of artistic expression,” said festival director Lise Oakley.
They had 750 applications pour in from around the globe, and ended up with five masterpieces.
“Under the discerning eye of curators Amber Price and Carrielynn Victor, the selection process will once again be deliberate and meticulous,” Oakley said.
They’ll go over the submissions in the coming weeks with an eye to handpicking five muralists for the 2024 season.
Representing diverse backgrounds and perspectives, these artists will strengthen the festival’s commitment to a global narrative while reflecting the richness of the local artistic landscape.
Selections will be based on experience, artistic merit, and the existing mural inventory, ensuring harmony, innovation and cohesion.
The vibrant murals will find their niche in Chilliwack’s downtown core, transforming the cityscape into a riot of colour and mood.
The murals both enhance public spaces and provide an immersive experience for locals and visitors alike. Guided tours will lead art enthusiasts through the streets, highlighting the unique stories behind each mural in a celebration of creativity and community.
The Chilliwack Mural Festival runs three days, Aug. 15 to Aug. 17, 2024 aiming to captivate, provoke thought, and ignite conversations that transcend boundaries. The event is like a three-day celebration of arts and culture with the 2024 murals unveiled.
“As the Chilliwack Arts Council moves forward with its transformative vision, it invites artists near and far to contribute their talents and enrich the cultural fabric of Chilliwack. Together, let us redefine the boundaries of artistic expression and breathe life into our shared spaces.”
