Sicamous RCMP put the brakes on three drivers excessively speeding on a stretch of Highway 1 known locally as the Malakwa 500.
At 8:30 p.m. on June 27, the Sicamous RCMP saw an eastbound Hyundai Sonata driving 157 km/h in the 100 km/h zone on Highway 1 near Malakwa Loop Road. That incident was followed soon after at 8:50 p.m. when a Toyota SUV heading west was clocked doing 157 km/h near the same location.
The trifecta came the following day, June 28 at 5:30 p.m., when a Sicamous officer noted a Mazda SUV heading east at 190 km/h along that same stretch of highway.
"All three drivers were issued tickets for excessive speeding," Sgt. Murray McNeil said in a media release. "And their vehicles were impounded for seven days."
Tickets for excessive speed range from $368 for going over 40 km/h over the limit, to $483 and three penalty points for 60 km/h over.
