A pair of musicians from Sweden will continue their winding journeys with a tour through Nanaimo next week.

BF/C, made up of Barish Firatli and Joel Igor Hammad Magnusson, aka Californiaman, will play Vault Skateboards on Wednesday, July 9.

A press release describes their sound as crooning over synth-soaked electropop.

"BF/C’s sound is both intimate and cinematic, conjuring scenes of longing and seduction in candlelit rooms and smoky corners," the release noted. "It’s the music you didn’t know you were waiting for – a nomadic feast of pop, rock, memory, and magic.

Firatli's musical upbringing started with classical piano and continued through Buddhist voice coaches, Paris cafés, and California classrooms, while Magnusson's involved teen bands, major tours, studio work and a bass gig with Wyclef Jean.

The musicians' paths converged "in a haze of weed and wild ambition," the release noted, and they have since released two LPs with a third full-length album planned for this year. With an eye to film and TV placements, they're continuing to write music "that feels both ancient and futuristic, familiar and entirely their own."

WHAT'S ON … Brookie Boi and BF/C play Vault Skateboards on July 9 at 8:30 pm. Doors at 8 p.m. Admission $15 or pay what you can.
