A clothing retailer at Abbotsford's Highstreet Shopping Centre suffered what police are saying is a significant grab and run style theft on Friday (July 4) evening.
The store’s loss prevention officer reported that a man entered the premises carrying a large duffel bag and then filled it with merchandise from multiple clothing racks. The suspect then fled the store through the main entrance.
The estimated value of the stolen merchandise exceeds $14,000.
Abbotsford Police Department officers responded to the call at around 7:20 p.m. and the investigation is currently active.
The Highstreet incident was one of 316 police files over the weekend from Friday at 5 p.m. to Monday (July 7) at 6 a.m.
Highstreet clothing retailers include: American Eagle, GAP Factory, H&M, La Vie en Rose, lululemon, Marshalls, Old Navy, One Boardshop, Torrid and Urban Behaviour.
APD reported that Sunday evening saw a single-vehicle rollover on North Parallel Road at No. 3 Road in which the driver fled the scene on foot, jumped into the Sumas Canal and attempted to swim away. Police said that the driver was observed doing the backstroke across the canal and was arrested upon reaching the opposite bank. As a result, he is now facing an impaired driving suspension. A dog and drone unit were used to apprehend the driver.
