Gordon McIvor of Chilliwack says he "remained calm" when he realized he won $675,000 on a Set for Life scratch ticket.
He had arrived early for a doctor's appointment, and popped into the Shoppers Drug Mart on Vedder Road to buy mints. While there, he decided to grab a Set for Life ticket. That ticket was a pretty small winner, revealing a free play with a new ticket. So, he grabbed his free ticket and headed back to the doctor's office with it.
“I decided to take the free play ticket to the doctor’s office and scratched it there,” said McIvor. “I then took it back to the retailer to check. Everyone in the doctor’s office knew I won, and they were all looking at me, so it was kind of funny.”
He said he managed to stay calm, much to the surprise of everyone in the doctor's office.
"I was stoic," he said. And he and his wife had some plans.
“I went to a car dealership soon after I found out," he said. "My wife and I had been talking about getting a used car. I called her from the dealership saying we can get a new one and told her about the win. She thought I was full of it.”
McIvor now plans to help his daughter with a down payment for a home and purchasing a newer vehicle. He is also thinking of upgrading his RV.
In the news release about the win, BCLC said that so far in 2025, B.C. lottery players have redeemed more than $5 million from Set for Life.
