RCMP explosives unit respond to 'suspicious box' in Langford

The public was asked to stay away from the area

The RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit were called to Langford July 10, after a report of a “suspicious box” in the parking lot of a building, opposite City Hall.

According to a release, the box was located shortly after 11 a.m. in a parking stall at 866 Goldstream Ave. in Langford.

At the scene, police contained the area, creating a safety perimeter. Surrounding residences and businesses were also notified and the public was asked to stay away from the area.

An update shared at 5:40 p.m., confirmed the RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit had attended the scene and conducted a thorough examination of the box, determining there was no explosive device present.

“We thank the public and residents of the area for their patience as we worked to ensure public safety in this incident,” said a statement from the RCMP. “The area is now clear.”
