The University of the Fraser Valley men's soccer team has looked to Chilliwack for a new addition to the 2025 roster.
The school announced the signing of midfielder Nolan MacMillan in May and the Sardis Secondary Grade 12 student joins the green and white in the fall.
The 5-8 midfielder plays club soccer with Chilliwack-based Tzeachten FC Premier and made headlines last summer when he helped the Fraser Valley Selects 2006 boys soccer team win gold at the 2024 Youth Soccer Provincial A-Cup Championship. The team blanked Victoria’s Bays United 1-0 in the gold medal game on July 21, 2024.
The name MacMillan is likely familiar to Cascades soccer fans as Nolan is the younger brother of former UFV star midfielder Connor MacMillan.
The elder brother is among the most productive players in Cascades men's soccer history, and following his final season in 2016, he ranked seventh all-time in goals (10) and tied for fourth in assists (six). He also represented Canada at the 2017 Summer Universiade in Chinese Taipei. He went on to play professionally in Sweden after graduation. Connor now serves as the assistant coach for the Cascades men's soccer team.
The team also announced the signing of Maple Ridge's Cadence Mullen for the fall.
Mullen, a 6-0 defender, graduated from Westview Secondary and previously played for both FC Tigers (Surrey/Burnaby) and Langley United. He spent the 2024 season with the Pacwest's Douglas College Royals and appeared in two games.
Mullen served as the team captain for the Westview Soccer Academy and helped guide the team to a top-five finish at the provincial high school championships in his Grade 11 and 12 years.
Dennis Schmidt, the academy director at Westview, said Cadance is the poster boy for the program.
"He has remarkable character – strong and disciplined, competitive and hard-working," Schmidt told the Maple Ridge News.
