Trail Blazers: Summer in the 60's

Trail Blazers is a weekly feature in partnership with the Trail Museum and Archives

As we head into summer, youth camps of all sorts are launching in the City of Trail.

“Here, we remember the numerous facilitated summer programs led by the Trail Athletic Association and the Trail-Tadanac Parks Board,” begins Sarah Benson-Lord, manager, Trail Museum and Archives.

“Playgrounds and wading pools were staffed by eager teenagers from Monday to Friday who offered support to neighbourhood families with the supervision and creative exploration of Trail’s youth during the summer months.”

These Trail Times images from 1968 published July 2 and July 6, showcase the simplicity and camaraderie of good, old-fashioned fun of days gone by.

From parades, crafts, drama, sports days, and water fun, Trail youth were offered ample opportunities to explore their community, stay connected with friends, and bank fond memories.
