RCMP are asking the public for assistance in locating Timothy Bakanec. Bakanec is alleged to have been involved in a collision in Smithers on Oct. 20, 2021. The collision resulted in the death of the other vehicle’s driver and significant injuries to the passenger.
Mounties said Bakanec is known to frequent Quesnel.
Bakanec is described as:
- Caucasian man
- 73-years-old
- 5 ft 7 in (170)cm)
- 172lbs (78kg)
Bakanec was charged with driving without due care and attention, a warrant has been issued for his arrest, Mounties said in a Dec. 12 news release.
"We are urging Mr. Bakanec to turn himself into his local police detachment to address these allegations through the courts," said Sgt. Ryan Law of the Smithers RCMP.
Police do not have a photo of Bakanec. They are asking anyone who knows him to call their local police.
"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the individual who lost their life in this tragic collision. We extend our deepest condolences to those who are still grieving this loss," added Sgt. Law.
