UDPATE: Cariboo wildfire near Alkali Lake 'being held'

The lightning-caused fire was discovered Friday, July 19

A fire south of Williams Lake is now being held, according to the BC Wildfire Service website as of late Friday afternoon, July 19. 

Crews responded to the lightning-caused 0.3 hectare near Alkali Lake, earlier in the day. 

"Ground crews and air craft are on site," confirmed Madison Dahl, fire information officer with the Cariboo Fire Centre.

The fire is located near the community of Esk'etemc (Alkali Lake) and a crew from the community has also responded. 

At noon Friday, Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the South Cariboo, including Williams Lake.

Earlier in the morning a thunderstorm moved through the Cariboo bringing some rain and lightning to areas.
